From the Principal

I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. I am always appreciative of this ‘circuit breaker’ for our students during these colder months. The long weekend seems to rejuvenate us all as we close off this busy term.

OLMC staff are fresh off our annual Staff Spirituality Day which was held last Friday. We were privileged to have Mercy Sister Peta Goldburg rsm facilitate the day which centred on Catholic Social Teaching. Later in the day Sr Peta unpacked Pope Leo XIV ‘s first encyclical for us. Magnifica Humanitas speaks strongly to safeguarding the human person in this time of Artificial Intelligence. With so much ‘noise’ on this subject, it was wonderful to reflect on this encyclical, to remind us of all the centrality of human dignity and worth in the workplace, in education and indeed in our world.

The staff also participated in assembling Vinnies Snack Packs and Care Packs for distribution by our local Vinnies Chapter. The generosity of our community is never more seen than on days like this when the contributions by families to this initiative is overwhelming and heartwarming.

As always, we are grateful to have Fr Walter as our College Chaplain who began the day for us celebrating eucharist and I especially thank Mrs Marg Marriot, Director of Identity at OLMC for her foresight in anticipating the needs of her colleagues in organising this inspiring and thoughtful day for us.

There is a lot coming up at the College as we near the end of Term 2. I am particularly looking forward to the announcement of our 2026/2027 Student Leadership Team on Monday, 15 June and our OLMC Inspire: Alumnae Career Talks on Tuesday, 16 June. The career talks are a valuable opportunity for all senior students to hear from alumnae on their education and career journeys. It is always such a joy to have our alumnae walk through the College gates again and hear what they’ve been doing since graduating.

The following week, on Tuesday, 23 June, we welcome the families of our incoming Student Leaders at their Induction Assembly and Morning Tea. This is always such a wonderful morning, full of pride and support for our new Student Leaders. That evening we will hold our Chapel Soiree. The OLMC Community is welcome to join us at this event. An email will go out tomorrow with more details on how to purchase tickets for this evening of musical excellence.

And then, just like that, Term 2 will wrap up. Students finish on Thursday, 25 June at 1.35 pm to allow for Parent Teacher Conferences to take place on Thursday afternoon and Friday. All students will return for Term 3 on Tuesday, 21 July. In that first week back, we will hold our Year 12 Performing Arts HSC Showcase on Friday, 24 July. No RSVPs are required for this event, but I encourage you all to attend to support our Year 12 students. More details can be found here.
