On Saturday, 29 August, the College opened its doors for Parramatta Open, joining some of the city’s most significant heritage buildings, contemporary spaces and architectural landmarks. Hosted by Museums of History NSW as part of the Sydney Open Satellite program, Parramatta Open invited the public to discover buildings and spaces that are not usually accessible, exploring the rich architectural and cultural history of Parramatta. We had about 460 visitors through our gates on the day.  

At OLMC, visitors had the opportunity to explore the College and discover more about its 137-year history in the heart of Parramatta, including the heritage of the Sisters of Mercy alongside the College’s contemporary learning spaces. The Brigid Shelly Building was among the significant Parramatta buildings highlighted as part of the program. It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome the wider community and share the story of a place where Mercy heritage and contemporary education continue to come together. 

Last week we held our annual Father Daughter Mass. It was a pleasure to welcome fathers, grandfathers and significant people to the College for this special and heartwarming event. I thank our attendees for joining us for an enriching Mass and breakfast.  

This weekend I am looking forward to joining our alumnae for the 2026 Alumnae Reunion. Former Mercy Girls will join us for Mass and a College Tour, with the day wrapping up at Club Parramatta. It’s always a pleasure to see our alumnae return to the College as they reconnect with friends and I look forward to being a part of this special day.  

We’re now in the final weeks of Term 3. Mercy Day will be held next week on Friday, 18 September. I know this is a day the entire College – staff and students alike – look forward to as we come together to have fun while raising funds for Mercy Works. A reminder that there are no lessons for students on this day.  

In the coming weeks we will also celebrate and farewell the Class of 2026. Friday, 25 September marks the culmination of their time here at OLMC. Families will join us for Graduation Mass, Morning Tea and the Graduation Assembly. We then head to Oatlands House for the Year 12 Graduation Lunch. I look forward to recognising the Class of 2026 and their families on this special day. Parents, a reminder that this is an at-home learning day for students in Years 7 – 11.
