Wingara Leadership Event
Four of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students recently attended the Wingara Leadership Event at the Bankstown Campus of Western Sydney University, joining 160 students and staff from AIS schools across New South Wales. It was a day of learning, connection and cultural celebration.
Centered on the theme dhurali warrunggad , meaning "to grow Elders" in the Dharug language, the event encouraged students to explore what leadership looks like within their communities and how they can contribute to positive change in the future.
Throughout the day, our students participated in a range of activities, including sporting challenges, discussions around Women's Business, and workshops exploring future pathways. These experiences provided opportunities for reflection, personal growth and the development of leadership skills.
A particular highlight of the event was the opportunity to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from other schools. Through shared experiences, conversations and activities, our students formed new friendships and strengthened their sense of belonging within a broader community of young Indigenous leaders.
The gathering concluded with a celebratory dinner and a special performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter Budjerah, providing a memorable end to an inspiring day.
We are proud of our students for embracing this opportunity with enthusiasm and respect. They returned with new friendships, valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the importance of culture, community and leadership.
