From the Principal
The last two weeks of Term 3 are always a particularly busy time at the College. As I write, I am still filled with all the excitement and joy from Mercy Day. Held last week, staff and students came together to have fun and enjoy one another's company as we raised funds for Mercy Works. Highlights from this year included dancing in FK Playground (my personal favourite), the photo booth, and a variety of delicious food trucks. We had face painting in EA Hall, arcade games, and quiet spaces in the library. It truly was a wonderful day.
Thank you to all the staff, students, families, and community members who made Mercy Day such a success. This year has certainly reminded us why this day is a firm favourite on the College calendar.
On Mercy Day we were also pleased to present Mrs Leanne Goldsmith, Database Administrator, with the Mercy Day Community Award. Now in its second year, this award celebrates a person whose contribution is deeply valued and profoundly inspiring. Since 2014, Leanne has been a valued member of the OLMC community, and she continues to imbue the College with her professionalism and generosity.
Year 12 have been busy this week. Yesterday, they shared in the joy of their final bell. Today, they enjoyed a variety of events including the Year 12 student and staff breakfast, morning tea with the Sisters, their House farewells, and the Year 12 led assembly. Tomorrow will see Year 12 engage in their final Reflection Day before their graduation on Friday, 25 September. This day marks the culmination of their time here at OLMC as we come together for their Graduation Mass, Morning Tea, Assembly and Lunch.
I join the entire College Community in wishing Year 12 all the best as they graduate and begin their HSC exams. You are in our prayers.
Protecting and Celebrating Our Mercy Girls Online
You may have noticed some changes in the way we are celebrating our Mercy Girls online. As the digital environment evolves, so too does the way we protect the privacy and safety of our students. In response to advice from the eSafety Commissioner, OLMC is taking greater care with how identifiable student images are shared publicly.
You may notice fewer close-up photographs, more group and activity-based images, and images framed to reduce identifying details. We will, of course, continue to proudly celebrate the achievements and experiences of our Mercy Girls while ensuring their safety and privacy remain at the forefront. We encourage our community to take the same care when sharing images from College events, particularly when other students are identifiable.
In housekeeping matters, a final reminder that the last day of Term 3 (Friday, 25 September) will be an At Home Learning Day for all students in Year 7-11. I look forward to welcoming all students back to the College on Monday, 12 October. During Term 4, Mr James Franklin will be stepping into the role of Acting Director of Student Wellbeing as Ms Ann-Marie Herd takes long service leave.
Mrs Jennie Mater, Leader of Academic Programs will also be on long service leave in Term 4. We wish Ann-Marie and Jennie a wonderful time of refresh and rest and will welcome them back in 2027.
I hope you all have a restful holiday break.
Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for us
Ms Lucie Farrugia
