From the Principal
The last week of Term 2 has certainly been busy. Yesterday was jam-packed with activity as we recognised and celebrated our 2026/2027 Student Leaders at their Induction Assembly and Morning Tea. This is always a poignant and heartwarming morning as we thank our outgoing leaders and welcome in this new group of students. Thank you to the families who joined us for this morning.
Last night marked our annual Chapel Soiree. Held in the Mother Mary Clare Dunphy Memorial Chapel, all attendees delighted in the wonderful musical talents of our students. Girls, your talent and bravery did not go unnoticed. I congratulate you all on your fantastic performances. Thank you to the staff who worked behind the scenes and on the day itself to make the Chapel Soiree possible. Events like these are always such a joy to be a part of, and I thank everyone in attendance for their support.
I was pleased to attend the Principals in Parliament event on Thursday, 4 June. State Member for Parramatta, Donna Davis makes a point of organising this event annually for Parramatta Principals across all sectors. The event takes place in the stunning ‘Jubilee Room’ within State Parliament House. This gathering gives Principals an exclusive opportunity to meet with Ms Davis, as well as Deputy Premier of NSW and Minister for Education and Early Learning, Ms Prue Car, and Secretary of the NSW Department of Education Mr Murat Dizdar. This year, Premier Chris Minns visited the gathering too. It allows us to paint a picture for these politicians of the particular needs of our area, such as our growing population and infrastructural challenges schools are facing to meet the demand.
I always welcome the opportunity to gather with Principal colleagues; to find the commonalities and challenges in our schools, as well as recognise that which makes OLMC distinct and such a great option for educating girls in Parramatta and beyond.
This has certainly been a fantastic term with an abundance of activities and events. We had the pleasure of hearing careers advice at the OLMC Careers Expo, Women in Leadership Forum, and OLMC Inspire: Alumnae Career Talks. Sporting success was found in the Athletics Carnival and various other exciting sporting events and endeavours. Students worked diligently inside and outside of the classrooms and, most importantly, were kind and compassionate to themselves and each other.
A highlight of Term 2 is always the Athletics Carnival. The spirit and camaraderie, which the girls display within their Houses, transcends their house loyalty to cheer on their classmates and authentically congratulate the efforts of participants. This is a day that all staff love too – where we can relax a little and enjoy the company of students in a different setting. Now in the second year of girls making their way to and from Olympic Park, this is well accepted and most parents value the teachable moment that comes with this bit of independence for our students. We always believed the girls would manage this expectation and now we have precedent to know this is true.
As we head into the June/July school holidays, I wish you all a restful time. Looking toward Term 3; Monday, 20 July will be a Pupil Free Day as all staff engage in professional learning. All students return on Tuesday, 21 July. We then head into an exciting mix of events including the Year 12 Performing Arts HSC Showcase. This fantastic celebration of our Year 12 Performing Arts students will be held on Friday, 24 July from 6.00 pm – 7.30 pm. It’s certainly shaping up to be a fantastic term!
Mary, Mother of Mercy.
