Write a Book in a Day
Over two days - across two weeks - OLMC participated in the Write a Book in a Day (WABIAD) challenge. 97 students from Years 7 and 8 took part across 14 teams on Friday, 19 July. Today, 124 students from Years 9-11 formed 16 teams to take part in the challenge.
Throughout both days, students demonstrated negotiation and collaboration skills as they worked together to create original stories based on a set of surprise parameters. Their creativity was on full display, while our clever illustrators produced artwork that brought each story to life.
One of the highlights for this year was the introduction of staff team adoptions. Staff members gave up time from their schedules to visit their adopted teams, read drafts, offer suggestions and provide encouragement through the writing process. Their support helped create a sense of community and gave students valuable feedback as they worked towards completing their stories.
Beyond the writing itself, Write a Book in a Day supports an important cause. So far, our students have raised over $27,000 for childhood cancer research. We are proud of their efforts, not only for the stories they create but also for the difference they are helping to make in the lives of children and families affected by cancer.
Congratulations to all students and staff involved for making this year's Write a Book in a Day campaign such a remarkable success.
