Update of the College Master Plan building works

Following the adoption of the College Master Plan 2008-2016 and its presentation to the College community, building works commenced during Term 3.

The first task was to purchase and install a demountable building to temporarily house the Music Department and its classes so that the administrative offices could be relocated within the Brigid Shelly building. The Music demountable was purpose built, air conditioned and located at the back of the Cottage so it wouldn’t impact on any playground area. It has been in use since the start of Term 4.

During the October school holidays, minor works were undertaken in the Visual Arts Department with the creation of a new senior classroom area and improved storage for the students’ art work.

Work also commenced at the beginning of Term 4, of a centralised administrative office area on the ground floor of the Brigid Shelley building. This move will free up the first floor of the building for staff, student and parents’ meeting spaces as well as a technology support area for students once the student notebook program is introduced next year. Sustainable air conditioning will also be introduced into areas of Brigid Shelley. The heritage value of Brigid Shelley will be protected throughout the building program so that future generations of the College may also enjoy its history.

Planning for the major new building in the north-western corner of the Back Green is progressing well. This new building will house Science facilities, a Library and study areas, a Canteen, specialist Hospitality classrooms and the Senior Study. Various staff members have been assisting the architects and consultants in preparing a detailed brief for the building. We hope to have concept plans finalised to share with you early in 2009, with work to commence during the second half of 2009 and occupation at the start of 2011. We are also taking the opportunity to enhance disability access to the existing buildings and energy supplies to the site, while the major building works are in progress.

We look forward to continuing to update you on the plans and progress of these exciting works as they unfold.
